Apartment project on former factory site breaks ground
November 21, 2024 - GOSHEN − After a rocky start, a 136-unit apartment complex on a south Goshen brownfield site is on track to open in 2026.
City staff, AP Development leaders and other planners broke ground Wednesday for the Ariel Cycleworks apartment complex on the former Western Rubber site. It will offer studio as well as one- and two-bedroom units at monthly rents ranging from $1,200 to $1,700, according to AP Development founder Jon Anderson.
Ariel Cycleworks apartments officially underway
November 19, 2024 - GOSHEN − Years in the making, a former Brownfield site in Goshen is finally getting a new life.
On Tuesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Ariel Cycleworks, a mixed-use development that will include apartments and commercial space on Douglas Street.
The former Western Rubber site is a brownfield site, meaning due to its former use as an industrial property, the location required remediation in order for redevelopment to begin. The site was named after its original tenant, a world-class bicycle manufacturer, that closed in 1897, Ariel Cycle Manufacturing Co.

June 5, 2023 - WARSAW − Warsaw Redevelopment Commission approved two major housing projects at its Monday meeting, including one at the site of the former downtown Owen's.
Regarding that, the commission approved an economic development agreement with AP Millworks LLC and AP Development LLC for the Millworks project, an 85-unit housing development.
State grants announced for Evansville housing, dog park, riverfront planning, USI nursing
December 2, 2022 - EVANSVILLE − A workforce housing project, a dog park, more nursing school seats and a study of future possibilities for Evansville's riverfront are among the recipients of more than $6 million in state grant funding.
The Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority on Wednesday announced six new initiatives that will receive Regional Economic + Acceleration Development Initiative (READI) funds.
South Bend-Elkhart region awards READI funding
September 19, 2022 - SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend-Elkhart Regional Development Authority on Monday awarded $40 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grants. The organization says the funding will support 19 quality of place projects that are expected to generate $465 million in total regional investment. Additionally, the RDA set aside $7 million in READI grants for strategic programmatic funding, which will be awarded at a later date.
The RDA was one of five regions to receive the full, $50 million allocation of READI funding in December. The remaining $3 million is being allocated for administrative fees.
$40M Awarded in READI Funds
September 19, 2022 - The South Bend – Elkhart Regional Development Authority (RDA) awarded $40 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grant funds to 19 of Quality of Place projects and set aside $7 million for programmatic funding during its meeting at the Beacon Health Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center this afternoon. The $40 million in grant funding will be leveraged to infuse $465 million of total regional investments across the Quality of Place projects.
Downtown Evansville's old YMCA building expecting even more new apartments

Central Lofts open for new residents
April 13, 2022 - The old Downtown YMCA at 203 NW 5th Street is now the Central Lofts in Evansville. The building was opened in 1914 and served as both Central High School and the YMCA. There are now 62 apartments for income-qualified individuals or families.
62 unit affordable housing development open in Evansville
April 12, 2022 - EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Mayor Lloyd Winnecke joined other local leaders to cut the ribbon for the Grand Opening of Central Lofts, a 62 unit affordable housing development in the former YMCA building at 203 NW 5th St.
Officials say the historic YMCA building originally opened in 1914, and many of its original features were retained and reimagined through the rehabilitation of the building.
'Like having a postcard of your city': Old YMCA to see rebirth as affordable housing
March 15, 2021 - EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A large chunk of Evansville’s old Downtown YMCA, including a 1913-era section that's been vacant for decades, is being transformed into affordable housing.
The 62 units are expected to open later this year. A fourth of the apartments will be rented by people making up to 30% of the area’s median income, another fourth for those making up to 50%, and the remaining units for individuals and families earning up to 60%.
